About Sarawak

      The name comes from the name of stem Sarawak or Sarawak River.Stem Sarawak include the area around Kuching to the whole of Sarawak. Archaeological findings such as human bones, tools, pottery, and a former cemetery in the Niah Caves and paintings on cave walls prove that man has inhabited since pre-Christian Sarawak again.Human existence in Sarawak began about 40,000 years ago.This discovery proves that the state of Sarawak as one of the earliest inhabited by humans in Southeast Asia.Sarawak has more than 40 sub-ethnic group,each with its own distinct language,culture and lifestyle. Among etnic in Sarawak is the Iban,Malay,Melanau,Bidayuh,salako,Bisaya,Bugis,Kedayan. These ethnic groups have their own culture.

    In addition,Sarawak also has its own tools and unique.Among the musical instruments are engkerurai/erofon,sape/sapeh kordofon,engkeromong/idiofon,gendang etc. Engkerurai is one of the rare musical instruments at this point, both in public performances or display in the literature.Its existence seems unknown in public. Engkerurai have eleven or song repertoire that is tebah lantang,kenjan keterubah,kenjan kedua,saka dua,baling,alun panjai,entak kepayang,seri dayong,kenyah,keliute and indu guThe next musical instrument is Sape.In addition,Sape has four strings.In the past, Sape ropes made of fine strands of rattan.Today,the fine wires are used as a Sape rope for easier access and more robust sound.Sape is made from wood.Sape bodies are oval and long.Posted flat face only,while the back was drilled as a box loose sound.Sape rope cited using the fingers.Then another finger to press the strings on the trunk.      Every race in Sarawak has its own dance.Examples of dance in Sarawak is like Ngajat,Datun Julut,Mukun etc.In Sarawak ngajat very popular dance among the Orang Ulu in Sarawak. Ngajat for those who train the Iban are dances of the Iban war.Dancers will wear a red cloth tied at the waist to the knees.Dancers also wore hats decorated with bird feathers.In her dressed in a shirt made from bird feathers,but not sewn the left and right.The next dance that popular in Sarawak is Datun Julut. Dance of Sarawak can be performed alone or in groups.It is a dance with Kenyah Dayak tribes who lived in Bulungan,Kutai,Berau and sand that is the boundary between Sarawak and East Kalimantan.The main musical instruments accompanying this dance is the Sape.In this dance of bird feathers attached to the fingers of both hands dancer as an ornament.Motion of the feet to move to the left and right garland singing and clapping
